This shows a single midline primary pit and a secondary opening some distance to the right. The latter is being pulled across by a hidden hand so makes the midline opening deviate to the right a bit. This patient has had a previous abscess drained and has a scar at the secondary opening. John Bascom & George Karydakis have taught us that lateral openings (secondary openings) do not need to be included in the excision. They can be cleaned out of hairs and will heal so long as the primary pit is dealt with and the ‘circulation of hairs’ (in the primary pit and out the secondary opening) is stopped. |
